therapy for perfectionism
+ overthinking
in-person in Nashville, TN
virtual in Tennessee + Virginia
You may care deeply about doing things well,
but find that the pressure to get things “right” makes it harder to actually enjoy the process.
Maybe you spend too much time in your head, get stuck trying to make the perfect decision, or feel like the outcome has to go a certain way for you to feel okay. Over time, this can lead to stress, burnout, and the feeling that nothing you do is ever quite enough. Therapy can help you loosen rigid rules, tolerate uncertainty, and find more flexibility so you can work toward what matters to you without losing yourself in the process.
How Therapy Helps
How Therapy Helps
In therapy, we’ll look at the perfectionism and overthinking that can keep you feeling stuck. We’ll explore what those thoughts are trying to protect you from or motivate you toward, while learning to call out and challenge the rules, criticism, and pressure that keep you caught in your head.
Using approaches like ACT, CBT, and DBT, we’ll practice responding differently in real time—even when you don’t feel ready or certain. Through intentional practice and exposure, you can learn that you don’t have to follow every thought or do things perfectly for things to turn out okay.
The goal is to build a more flexible mindset so you can move forward, tolerate uncertainty, and actually experience the process instead of constantly focusing on getting it right.
What to Expect in Session
Our first session will look like an intake: a little overview of things like your family, relationships, current habits of sleep, etc., plus your goals for therapy.
After that, we'll have a few sessions of talking about what's going on for you currently, with psychoeducation on anxiety. From there, our sessions will vary based on what works best for you, whether we use CBT, DBT, or ACT-based skills.
